Lavanya Turlapati, PhD

Research Associate

A curious mind accompanied by a passion for Life Sciences, Lavanya holds a double Masters from India, in Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnology. During her second Masters at University of Hyderabad, she served as a Graduate Research Assistant in the department of Biochemistry. Her thesis focused on isolation and purification of recombinant proteins like PERK, Caspase-3 and eIF2 alpha involved in apoptotic pathway.

She then worked in the labs of Dr. Mackay and Dr. Anholt from 2008- 2018 and transitioned to Dr. Carbone’s lab from 2018-2019 at department of Biological Sciences at North Carolina State University (NCSU). She worked on various projects using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism to understand the underlying genetic architecture and environmental factors affecting variation in quantitative or complex traits at NCSU. She was instrumental in genotyping one of the projects- DGRP (Drosophila reference genomic panel) which is a community resource and a worldwide tool for GWAS analysis now.

Lavanya joined the team at BioSkryb in October 2019 with a plethora of experience in Next Generation Sequencing and lab management garnered from NCSU. She is deeply involved in the production team at BioSkryb. During her spare time, she likes to cook, listen to music, and spend her time with her son, family and friends.
